Young Girls Embarrased of "Giant Breasts"

In medical terminology, the name given to describe the condition of giant breasts is "virginal hypertrophy".In medical terminology, the name given to describe the condition of giant breasts is "virginal hypertrophy".

A specialist  in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Acıbadem Bakırköy Hospital, Prof. Atilla Arıncı points out that the giant breast problem is more frequently encountered in young girls between 16-19 years of age, with each breast weighing up to 4 kilograms in some cases.
Dr. Çağhan Baytekin, a specialist in Plastic Surgery at Acıbadem Kocaeli Hospital says that young girls suffering from giant breasts want to undergo surgery because of a variety of reasons such as brassiere marks, curvature of the upper spine, fungus growth underneath the breasts, the flattening of the back and the vertebra and postural problems.
Even though the giant breast syndrome is more frequently encountered in the case of young girls, there are other women suffering from the same problem. Following pregnancies or menopause, those women with structurally larger breasts may experience an even further growth or fattening in their breasts. Prof. Atilla Arıncı points out that as young adolescent girls experience confusion concerning the changes their bodies are undergoing, the giant breast problem adds to their already confused state of mind Prof.Atilla Arıncı says: "Both with respect to the way the patient perceives her body image and the attention-provoking nature of the problem in social life, this syndrome causes significant psychological problems in the sufferers. When young girls of this particular age group apply to us for breast reduction, the extent of their psychological damage may be such that they go as far as saying 'Cut these off entirely, I am fed up with those".  During reduction surgeries, sometimes we may end up removing up to 4 kilograms of tissue from each breast."

IT CAUSES NUMBNESS IN FINGERS

Giant breasts do not only cause the curvature of the upper spine and postural problems. Dr. Çağhan Baytekin says that by exerting pressure on the vessels underneath the clavicula, giant breasts create pressure on the nerves. This pressure causes numbness and a burning sensation in the fourth and fifth fingers of the patient.Dr. Baytekin says, "This problem is similar to someone walking around with 3 kilogram weights hanging around their neck. Following menopause, it causes even more complicated problems such as vertebral problems. This is why the patients prefer to have breast reduction surgery." Emphasising that they try to prevent loss of sensation in breasts when performing breast reduction surgery in young girls,Dr. Çağhan Baytekin says, "However, this may not always be possible in the case of giant breasts and some other major cases. We perform the reduction surgery by transposing the breast together with the vessel and nerve package".

IT IS A GIANT BREAST SYNDROME WHEN THE BRASSIERE SIZE EXCEEDS 100,

Even though the concept of giant breast is based on individual body assessment, any breast requiring a brassiere size of over 100 is defined as giant breast. During breast reduction surgeries, it is possible to perform as much breast tissue reduction as the patient would like. However, the extent of the reduction is a joint decision taken by the physician and the patient with consideration given to individual body composition and the expectations of the patient. Prof. Atilla Arıncı points out that a variety of techniques are used in breast reduction and that no single technique yields the ideal outcome for each and every patient. The decision to apply any kind of method is made by considering individual body composition, the size of the breast tissue, the consistency of the breast tissue, the quality and the elasticity of the skin, the patient's preference for incision marks and even the experience and the mastery of the surgeon. Contrary to popular opinion, breast reduction surgeries are not as painful as breast augmentation surgeries. However, apart from having to avoid exaggerated arm and body movements during the week following the surgery, for approximately one month, the patient has to wear a sports brassiere which carries the breast tissue with the support of thick elastic bands.
