CAREER
In 1989, he assumed the title of Associate Professor while he was a Pediatric Subspecialist at Hacettepe University. While he was studying specialty education, he started the first studies in children for electrophysiology and endomyocardial biopsy in Turkey. He started his military service in 1990 and completed it at Gulhane Military Medical Academy in 1991 and traveling to the cardiology center of OLV Hospital located in Aalst, Belgium in order to study cardiac electrophysiology and ablation which is then very rarely known in Turkey in 1992, performed studies for a period of one year.
Starting from 1993, he first started clinic studies on permanent cardiac pacemakers in child hood at the Pediatric Cardiology Unit of Hacettepe University and completed the establishment of the pacemaker center which managed to reach numbers achieved by only a few big centers in the world. This center is currently among the first 10 centers in the world with its studies.
Starting from 1993, he acted as vice director of the Pediatric Institute of Hacettepe University.
He performed studies on cardiac electrophysiological operation and interventional methods at Case Western University located in Cleveland in 1996 and Guys Hospital located in London in 1997.
While he started the first radiofrequency ablation use in children in 1993, he performed systematic use intensively from the beginning of 1998. Nearly 750 children were treated using this treatment method. • He started the first endovascular stent use in children in Turkey in 1997. In 1999, with a new method called Amplatzer device, he started to perform the closure of atrial septal defect with interventional method which has an application area with single-digit series until then. He worked as proctor for use of this method in many centers in Turkey and was personally involved in nearly 500 closures of ASD. In 2005, he started closure of ventricular septal defect invasively for the first time in Turkey.
In 1995, he was involved in the foundation of Turkish Pediatric Cardiology Association and acted as general secretary and vice president until 2005 and as president between 2005 and 2009. He was appointed to the board of Association for European Pediatric Cardiology (AEPC) between 2003 and 2006. He is currently working with the title of president fort he congress of this association to be organized in İstanbul in 2012.
Starting from 2003, he chaired the team organizing the international meetings named Pediatric and Congenital Rhythm Congress (PEDIRHYTHM) in 2005, 2007 and 2010. He acts as director of these meetings.
He is currently the head of Department of Pediatrics at Acıbadem Hospital where he began to work in 2009.
